NEMA 14-50 Installation Requirements
The 40A plug-in model requires a dedicated 50A dual-pole circuit and a NEMA 14-50 receptacle suitable for sustained EV charging loads. Emporia recommends using an industrial-grade receptacle rated for EV applications rather than a standard residential-grade outlet.
The charger includes built-in GFCI protection. Emporia recommends a non-GFCI breaker to help avoid nuisance tripping; however, installation must always comply with applicable local electrical codes. If local code requires a GFCI breaker on the NEMA 14-50 receptacle circuit, Emporia recommends considering the hardwired version instead.
Professional installation by a licensed electrician is recommended.
